Hello, Simon here!

Near the beginning of my career I read Simon Sinek’s ‘Start With Why’ and found it really thought provoking. It’s a great book and I recommend it!

Defining a business by Why rather than Who, or What, turns out to be an amazing idea so I did some soul searching about why working as a wedding photographer is so important to me.

Here’s our Why.

The photos above are scans of the few images I have from the weddings of my grandparents and parents, in 1938, 1943 and 1967 respectively.

They’re obviously very valuable to me, but what do they tell me about these three important big days in my family’s history? Very little. Only a few people present on the day are shown here and I know that my parents, and grandparents, are really not represented in a way that shows their true personalities.

What would I love to see?

Lots of photographs. From the whole day.

People getting ready in the morning filled with anticipation and maybe the customary touch of nerves, through to some full on dance floor action, filled with wine and good feelings.

In between those, the ceremony with its ‘hear a pin drop’ hush, and the unrestrained hugs-and-kisses congratulations afterwards. People mingling and catching up at one of the rare events that bring them all together. Some heartfelt speeches moving people to tears and then to roaring laughter. Maybe some beautiful portraits of the Bride and Groom looking relaxed and natural together as they explore the stunning locations around them at sunset.

And all the amazing moments threaded throughout, where people show their true selves on a glorious, unique day filled with emotion. Spontaneous and completely in the moment.

This is why we do what we do: to provide our couples with their complete story.

For most of the day we work in an authentic documentary style- capturing everybody at your wedding- so you know that what you see is exactly what happened. Then we mix in some well crafted couple portraits so you can see how wonderful the two of you looked exploring the beautiful landscapes around you. Oh, and a few relaxed family group shots of course, just so your coverage is complete.

We want you to be able to look back on your day exactly as it happened and re-live the moments as the years go by. Maybe one day you might be showing your photographs to your children and grandchildren as you tell your story!

That’s our Why. It’s not complicated but it’s from the heart!
